I have zero desire to see my boys spending 45 minutes standing in lines doing exactly the same thing as everyone else in the class. This isn’t North Korea or the people’s republic of China where conformity is the ultimate goal, I want them to develop their own styles and express their interpretation of the art they’re learning.
Being made to call an instructor “sir” is often an ego trip for the instructor. Kids spend all day at school calling teachers sir and Miss and I don’t want them doing it when they get home. The Kids show loads of respect to the instructors and each other at my gym but that isn’t fostered through bowing and being given press ups if they forget to call people sir. It’s fostered through building a teaching relationship and where the kids want to learn and get better to be as good as the other kids and coaches.
